What is EXIF Data?

EXIF is short for the Exchangeable Image File, a format that is common for storing interchange information in digital picture image files using JPEG compression. Almost all modern digital cameras and photo editing software use the EXIF annotation, recording image information such as shutter speed, exposure compensation, F number, which metering system was used when flash was used, ISO number, date and time the image was shot, white balance, auxiliary lenses used and resolution.
